I believe Zoot Suit highlights a very important chapter in Chicano history, most notably Chicanos in the United States. Because it is important to chicano culture, it is important to chicano theater. Like it says in the material, ethnic theater helped immigrants or “foreigners” understand and sympathize and express their difficulty adjusting to the culture, or feeling accepted by the community. Zoot Suit involves a specific incident in Los Angeles, and though written much later than the incident, it still talks about themes that are relevant today. Discrimination is still prevalent against the Latinx community in the United States, and Zoot Suit fits into the history of chicano in that it is a play set in another time, but shows us truth about who we are today.
